Figure Drawing

More figures from the Santa Monica YWCA figure drawing session. This time its a mindflayer/squidhead creature having a bad day and a snake man. I'm not sure if the snake man qualifies as a Naga or not.

Figure Drawing

Sometimes its faster for me to make up body parts than to draw what I see. I don't worry about proportion or being anatomically correct I just draw it to look right-ish. As it turns out, a bunch of tentacles takes way longer than two legs. I only finished one of the characters in the allotted time rather than the usual two.

Figure Drawing

The faun legs were the most difficult fantastical additions to the figure drawings that I have attempted yet. I guess I only have a vague idea on how they are constructed and really only from the profile view. Front facing legs were pretty challenging when the only reference I had was the regular human in front of me. That is why it is important to be varied in my sketchbook, if I draw enough things I will be able to pull more accurately from memory.

90 Minute Comics

For the past 9 weeks on Monday at 8:30, the gang and I have been meeting over google hangout and drawing comics based on the elimination competition in Penny Arcade's reality youtube show, "Strip Search." The show is a competition for web comic artists where every 3 episodes two artists would face off and draw a comic in 90 minutes based on two words randomly pulled from the "wastebasket of broken dreams." We don't have such a wastebasket but we do have a random word generator.

Check out all of the past comics.

This is my comic from this week, the words were fridge and discussion:
