Something a little different today... These are both copies of oil paintings by Katherine Hurley that I found in a magazine. My landscape skills need some working on.

Today I thought I'd give you a little step by step of how I created these last couple of paintings. First I do a quick sketch trying to capture the gesture of the shapes and where the planes change. Next I establish the direction in which the light is hitting the 3 dimensional object. Third, not shown here, I start to add color while trying to keep the value. Jan 2 entry is a good example of this. Finally, I solidify the colors and hopefully the value structure is intact. In all, this process takes me about 45 minutes to an hour. Thanks for looking!
