I started with a scanned pencil drawing. Using the Pen on a new layer I sketched over the old pencil sketch. Next, on a new layer in between the first two I used a transparent airbrush to block in the color. Then on the same layer I used the oliy artist brush to get more marks and mix the colors a little. After that I used a charcoal on the top pen layer to make the marks a little stronger. Since I am better at drawing than painting, the work looks better when my drawing shows through.

Ok Ill be honest, I did not paint this one on the 8th. I was out of town visiting and I did not get a chance to pull out the paints. Having said that I made the pencil drawing for it on the right day. I painted this and some of the other drawings I made that day, today. Anyway here is the best one that came out of the drawings.

This post doesn't have anything to do with the daily paint, I just have a couple of copies I did a little while ago that I wanted to put up. Theres a William Merrit Chase, Sargent, and a Waterhouse. Also, I wanted to give a shout out to my friend Mitch for giving me some tips on the website. Check him out here: http://www.morphodesigns.com/.

This one is a little more complete than the last ones. The middle figure started out as a sketch from an anatomy book and I just added the other two. I like the results a little better than the last couple fo days. Typically I paint or draw a lone figure in a portrait type setting. This is a little different, more of a crowded space type with more going on. At heart though it is still a portrait. I was thinking of a painter I saw at William and Mary, Sangram Majumdar, I think was his name. One of Heidi's friends.

This website is killing me! I haven't had as much time to do any kind of painting or drawing. This is a painting of the bones in the arm and shoulder. I started trying to do a painterly value structure but it ended up as a 5 value drawing. Tomorrow I'm not working on the site so I should have more time to do something better.

Here is a perfect example of overpainting. Keeping in mind the left half is supposed to be front and the right half is supposed to be a back you can see fairly clearly which I spent more time on. Even though I fussed over and repainted and overpainted the left side still did not get any better than the right. I spent what seemed to be an hour on the left and less than five on the right. (the drawing was already done) With the drawing intact on the right it looks far better to me. OH well its good practice and a lesson learned.

I did not have as much time today to work on my daily painting. Between the large gypsy painting and watching Mr Bean on holiday it only left a little bit for this piece. Its a gory bit from a sketch from an anatomy book. Really I was just testing out the watercolor brushes in painter. Enjoy :)

Dec. 1
Charles told me about a writing "contest" where a writer challenges himself to wrtie 50,000 words in a month. He asked me what is comparable in painting and I said a painting a day is a very similar challenge. Yesterday I decided to embark on this prject. I am going to do at least one painting a day. They will be digital, watercolor and maybe oil paintings. Since I didn't get the idea to post my progress on a blog until it was too late to put up yesterday's work, the postings will begin today.
Yesterday: These are digital paintings that I painted over an already completed figure sketch.
I haven't done todays painting yet, I'll get to that right now and post it after I'm done.
